On June 2014, Blessed Sacrament Parish and School in Walpole and St. Mary’s Parish in East Walpole became part of a new pastoral collaborative under the Disciples in Mission pastoral plan for the Archdiocese of Boston. Disciples in Mission is a groundbreaking plan for the future of the Archdiocese, preparing for the next 50 or 100 years of the Church in eastern Massachusetts, ensuring that every parish is a strong, stable, intentional, and effective center of the New Evangelization.
Disciples in Mission groups parishes into collaboratives of up to four with one pastoral team consisting of a pastor, parochial vicars, a permanent deacon, and pastoral staff that serves all the parishes.
By grouping parishes, Cardinal Seán was able to make sure that every parish had a pastor assigned and brought together the resources of multiple parishes to begin the process of a New Evangelization that would see a new growth in the Church.
Phase 1 of Disciples in Mission began in June 2013 and Phase 2 began the following June bringing together St. Mary Parish and Blessed Sacrament in the new Matthew 13 Catholic Collaborative under the leadership of Fr. George “Chip” Hines.
